Qatar recently participated in the 31st ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Electricity and Water Cooperation Committee held in Manama, Bahrain. The meeting, attended by Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi leading Qatar’s delegation, focused on enhancing collaboration among GCC countries on critical issues of electricity and water security.
The central discussions revolved around improving regional electricity interconnectivity and addressing the challenges posed by rising energy demand. The meeting also covered water security, a pressing concern for the member states, given the region’s arid climate and the increasing need for sustainable water management strategies.
In addition to these discussions, the committee reviewed the progress made since the last meeting and highlighted the importance of greater coordination among member states. This coordination is seen as essential to tackling regional challenges and strengthening collaborative efforts in the energy and water sectors.
The GCC ministerial meetings serve as a platform for member countries to align their strategies and develop a unified approach to shared challenges. By focusing on electricity and water cooperation, the committee aims to ensure long-term security and sustainability in these vital areas.
