Netanyahu Hails ‘Remarkable’ Intel as Strike Kills Houthi PM 2,000km Away

Israel’s growing intelligence prowess was on full display in a recent long-range strike on Yemen’s capital, an operation lauded by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a major success. The raid eliminated the Houthi prime minister, Ahmed Ghaleb Al Rahwi, demonstrating an unprecedented ability to target the secretive leadership of a group that was not on Israel’s primary threat map before the Gaza war.

Netanyahu celebrated the strike as a “fatal blow” and a sign of things to come, asserting that Israel will now pursue all senior Houthi officials. This aggressive stance follows relentless Houthi missile launches toward Israel and attacks on maritime traffic, which the group frames as acts of solidarity with Gaza.

The complexity of carrying out such a precise bombing from nearly 2,000km away points to a significant strategic achievement. Yet, the mission’s objectives were not fully met. The Houthi chief of staff, believed to be the main target, and the defense minister were not among the casualties, prompting Israel to convene its cabinet in a secure location afterward.

While the Houthis have promised to retaliate fiercely, experts believe the immediate impact will be on the leadership’s operational freedom. Yoel Guzansky of the INSS suggested that being forced “on the run” will disrupt their command and control, even if it doesn’t extinguish their will to fight.
