Qatar took part in a significant Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Committee meeting held in Bahrain, focusing on enhancing regional collaboration in social development and family support. The gathering brought together ministers of social affairs and social development from GCC member states, aiming to boost cooperation on social welfare initiatives and community development across the region.
Represented by Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Qatar engaged in discussions that emphasized the importance of coordination among the member states. The meeting aimed to share expertise and develop joint initiatives to tackle social challenges, with a broader goal of improving the quality of life within the GCC countries.
The committee reviewed the progress of existing Gulf-wide decisions and deliberated on the 2026–2030 work plan. A key focus was placed on enhancing social programs to ensure they adapt to the evolving needs of communities. Among the prominent topics was disability rights, where discussions included implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and proposing a regular Gulf forum on disability-related issues.
Additionally, ministers explored the implications of artificial intelligence on children’s rights and examined both the opportunities and challenges posed by emerging technologies. Plans for a comprehensive regional report on children’s rights and their future were also discussed, alongside further coordination on child protection and welfare.
Efforts to strengthen collaboration on women’s issues and consider new initiatives for advancing social development throughout the Gulf were also highlighted. On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Al Nuaimi attended a ceremony recognizing notable individuals and projects in civil social work, where several Qatari figures and initiatives were acknowledged for their contributions.
