Qatar and Iraq are poised to enhance their economic ties through the formation of a joint business council, a strategic move aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two nations. This initiative was solidified during a meeting hosted by the Qatar Chamber, which welcomed an Iraqi business delegation led by Amer Khalaf Alawi, President of the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The meeting served as a platform for business leaders from both countries to explore potential avenues for expanding bilateral economic activities.

Central to these discussions were approximately 60 investment opportunities associated with Iraq’s ambitious Development Road project, estimated to be valued at $250 billion. These opportunities span several key sectors including transport and logistics, manufacturing, energy and utilities, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, information technology, real estate, and tourism. Such diversification underscores the broad scope of potential collaboration and economic integration between Qatar and Iraq.

The formalization of the Qatar-Iraq Joint Business Council was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce. The establishment of this council aims to facilitate better communication between companies and entrepreneurs from both countries, support joint investment projects, and strengthen cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises.

In their discussions, both parties underscored the importance of fostering greater private-sector partnerships and increasing trade volume. Businesses from Qatar and Iraq are encouraged to explore these burgeoning investment opportunities, which promise to enhance economic cooperation and contribute to the prosperity of both nations.

With the creation of the Qatar-Iraq Joint Business Council, both countries are taking significant steps towards a more integrated economic future, leveraging their respective strengths and capabilities to drive mutual growth and development.
