Qatar has reinforced its dedication to supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty and economic recovery, with an emphasis on energy and electricity projects. During discussions between Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, plans were outlined to bolster cooperation in various sectors including energy, education, and healthcare.

A significant focus of the talks was on the energy sector, where QatarEnergy has entered into an agreement with France’s TotalEnergies to develop a solar power plant, marking a pivotal step toward enhanced energy collaboration. Additionally, Lebanon is advancing towards a joint initiative to modernize its electricity infrastructure through a build-operate-transfer model, which would circumvent the need for initial investment from the Lebanese treasury.

Qatar also addressed regional tensions, condemning Israeli actions against peacekeeping forces and violations of Lebanese territory. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the need for adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, advocating for an end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing support, noting the positive impact on Lebanon’s economy and reconstruction efforts. He highlighted that cooperation in energy, electricity, and investments would be instrumental in rebuilding the nation and facilitating the return of displaced citizens.

Qatar reiterated its commitment to collaborating with international partners to fortify Lebanon’s security and stability, underscoring its role in the country’s long-term recovery. This multifaceted support is seen as crucial in aiding Lebanon’s path to economic and political stability amidst ongoing regional challenges.
