by admin477351

At a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative in New York, Qatar emphasized the need for enhanced international collaboration to drive sustainable development and advance the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, outlined the significant challenges that developing nations face, such as financing and debt burdens, food and energy insecurity, climate change, and the digital divide.

Qatar’s appeal underscores the belief that sustainable and inclusive development is crucial for achieving long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. The country called for intensified global efforts to bridge the development financing gap and provide increased resources to developing countries, with a focus on the least developed nations. This includes advocating for stronger commitments to development finance, climate action, and reforms to the international financial system to better support these countries in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

The minister also highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in supporting sustainable development. However, she cautioned that unequal access to technology and expertise could exacerbate existing disparities. To address this, greater cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and digital skills development was urged.

Reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development, Qatar pointed to its National Vision 2030 and international partnerships as frameworks for its ongoing efforts. The country is actively engaged in initiatives aimed at poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience-building in vulnerable regions.

Qatar’s call for stronger international cooperation underscores the urgency of addressing the systemic challenges that hinder sustainable development. By fostering global partnerships and investing in innovative solutions, the country aims to contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future for all nations.
