The governments of the Netherlands and Belgium have decided to prohibit the import of goods produced in Israeli settlements, a move that has garnered praise from Qatar. The Gulf nation considers these bans a significant step in countering settlement activities within the Palestinian territories currently under Israeli occupation.
In a public statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the alignment of these bans with international efforts aimed at curbing settlement expansion. The ministry emphasized that such activities are in violation of international law and contravene United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334.
Qatar expressed optimism that more nations would follow in the footsteps of the Netherlands and Belgium. It urged the global community to take on its legal and ethical obligations by pressing Israel to cease its settlement activities in the occupied territories.
Reaffirming its commitment to the Palestinian cause, Qatar reiterated its support for a two-state solution. This solution envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
